Wall Mount With Center Stud

If a stud does not fall dead center to where you want to hang your television you will need to mount a piece of scrap plywood on two studs in order to create a solid surface for your hardware.

Holding a light near the wall as you look along it can help you find the imperfections. Mark the location of each stud s center with a pencil. Use 3 center lag bolts for center stud installation use 4 corner lag bolts for post or beam installation. With most tv mounts you should be able to hit at least one stud with a screw.

That means you can only use 2 lag bolts to secure the wall mount. For testing we built a wall with wooden studs 16 inches on center covered in half inch drywall emulating standard wood frame construction practices. Using your stud finder mark in pencil the placement of your studs. Drill holes in the mounting bracket to where it centers on the wall and the new holes hit stud center. The fasteners give you a good estimate of the center of the studs. The vmpl50a b1 can mount into a wood stud.

But when you slide your stud finder across the wall you can only find one stud probably right in the middle if it s over the fireplace. For the remaining screws just use a hollow wall anchor. Determine your television placement on the wall and mount plywood if needed. On drywall walls raised or sunken imperfections running vertically indicate fasteners that secure the panels to the studs.

Instead use masonry anchors when fastening the mount to the wall. Most of the mounts kits include them or you can use whatever type you d like. If there is a doubt about only two screws holding the weight involved then use larger screws and pre drill the stud with a smaller bit size to keep from splitting the stud. If mounting a tv to a wall made of brick you won t need to find studs.

You just bought a brand new tv stud finder level and a tv wall mount and are super excited about trying to mount your own tv. On the off chance you can t hit any studs you can just use hollow wall anchors provided by the manufacturer. Good luck hope it.

Any mount will be made stronger if you put screw in metal wall anchors or better yet togglers at the far outside left and right reaches of the mount. Use at least two.
