Interact with the machine to add the bait to it and it will process the bait into something you can use to open a locked door.

I was gonna post this last night a few hours after the previous one but i learned that that vaults rotate halfway through the day night cycle. Crappy picture of the infested room. To the left of the door is an infested room where are reactive crystal hides. The voice you hear when sitting on the chair is not ordis but the infested being residing in that room.
