Shear gates are designed for use in lines of low seating pressure for filling and emptying tanks low sludge discharge lines and similar applications. These other designs also have a gate which is suspended by packing chambers which leads to gate seat misalignment and leakage. Other through gate valves have large internal body cavities in which solid materials can build up to jam operation of the gate.
